Language and Culture Assistants

The Spanish government’s Language and Cultural Assistant program is the largest and most popular program in Spain. It places thousands of teaching assistants in public schools around Spain each year.

Benefits

Requirements
  • Be a native English speaker
  • Be a resident of the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, China or the EU
  • Have at least 2 years of university education
  • Complete a medical evaluation
  • Have a clean criminal record
  • Have a basic level of Spanish
Responsibilities
  •  Work 12 hours per week (16 per week in Madrid)

BEDA

This program places language assistants in Catholic schools, primarily in the Madrid region. It also provides them with a teaching course at the University of Comillas.

  • Work 20 hours per week in school
  • Have conversation practice with teachers and small groups of students
  • Assist with school activities
Program Duration  September to June OR January to June/July
Program Fee  Applicants from the EU must pay a security deposit of €150

UCETAM

If you’re determined to work in Madrid, this is the program for you. UCETAM only places language assistants in Madrid, and according to their website gives them free lunches as well.

  • Stipend of €1000 – €1400, depending on hours worked
Requirements
  • Be a native English speaker
  • Have a bachelor’s degree
Responsibilities
  • Work 18 – 26 hours per week
  • Attend orientation in September
